Description
Lily and Paul are brother and sister, temporarily living on the Greek island of Thasos while their father is on sabbatical. They enjoy exploring the island's cliffs, beaches, and ancient temples, and they love the friendly people and the mystery of the night noises. And for the first time they're getting along like best friends, something that never happened back home in the States.
But then they discover Jack, another American boy living on the island. When Paul and Jack become friends, Lily gets left out. She thinks Jack is a show-off and a fake. Yet part of her knows that he is lost and lonely and she wishes he would include her in his adventures.
One day Jack shows off too much, and everything changes. Even though they will never be friends, can Lily reach out and comfort wild and independent Jack?
"Greece itself is Fox's protagonist, its roots in the past nourishing the present, its antiquities, vegetation, and people pulsing with vitality. ... A quiet, beautifully crafted story." - Kirkus Reviews
