Description
It’s the single worst day ever for best friends Joan Lee and Lee Jones. They’re going to different schools in the fall, both families are splitting up, and the big eighth grade field trip has been changed from their favorite amusement park to a cold and dreary Civil War era fort beneath the Golden Gate Bridge. But when they sneak into the lighthouse that hangs over San Francisco Bay, things at least get interesting. After a short nap, Joan and Lee wake up to discover that the Golden Gate Bridge is gone. And waiting for them is a young reporter named Mark Twain. The year is 1864.
It was in this same lighthouse, only a few calendar days before that Mark Twain also came unstuck in time. He has been bouncing back and forth through the centuries since, followed by a menacing and mysterious stranger.
Stranded in 1864, our three heroes search for a way back to their homes, only to discover that there are now several mysterious strangers after them. Fleeing from this vicious gang, Joan, Lee and Twain come unstuck together and travel from one San Francisco to another, from the distant past to the unimaginable future. To find their way home, Joan and Lee will have to confront the mysterious strangers, and possibly their future selves.
