Description

Warren Wordsworth Faw was born September 17, 1909 near the village of Springfield, Ontario, the youngest of three sons born to Barney and Grace (McKenny) Faw. From an early age, he enjoyed books, and as the years passed, he developed a great interest and considerable skill in three hobbies: wood carving, playing musical instruments (some of which he made), and writing poetry.

The fifty poems in this book are a selection of rhyming works written over the years on a great variety of subjects. You will find a number of references to his other hobbies within these verses.

Warren married Reta (Tremain) on April 10, 1937, and together they had four children. They lived and farmed for exactly fifty years near Springfield, then moved to Fairview Mennonite Home in Cambridge, Ontario for their "sunset" years. They had been married 67 years in April of 2004. Reta died in September 2004 at the age of almost 96, and Warren died in January of 2013 at the age of 103.

Probably Warren's most ambitious project was to write Versified Rendering of the Complete Gospel Story. This he did in two versions, one based on fairly typical "King James" English, and the other, entitled Emmanuel, using more modern language. He also "versified" many books of both the Old and New Testaments and created rhyming first-person pen pictures of a large number of Bible characters.

Other topics for rhyming included wonders of nature, values for life, travel experiences, family events, and pen pictures of both family members and friends through the years.

It is an ongoing project of some of Warren's children and grandchildren to get all Warren's poems published and available for the reading pleasure of interested people. This will comprise at least three thousand pages and involve several books.
