Description

1914. With illustrations from photographs. Dallas Lore Sharp was among the most popular nature writers of his time. In addition to his books, he wrote hundreds of magazine articles for many of the popular publications of the era. In the summer of 1912, Sharp traveled from his home in Boston to join William L. Finley, writer and wildlife photographer in Oregon. During that summer Finley took Sharp over a wide area in Oregon. Sharp and Finley made the dangerous climb to the sea bird colonies on Three Arch Rocks off the Oregon coast, crossed the high desert to famed Malheur marsh, rode horses into the Wallowa Mountains looking for the few remaining bighorn sheep, tried to bring a load of trout across the high desert to stock streams, and climbed Mt. Hood, all within that summer. An account of these exciting adventures is recalled here in Where Rolls the Oregon.
