Description

'Without doubt, When We, The Dead Awaken will come to be regarded as a testament of a lost generation'.

Dora Mozes, Sulkhan Zhordania's 'will to freedom'. The Messenger, January 28, 2005

'An intriguing novel with sincere revelations and in-depth analysis'.

Lily Khositashvili. The Road To Awakening. Georgia Today. 10-16 June, 2005.

Prof. Dr. Sulkhan Zhordania is a German writer and literary critic with Georgian roots. For years, he taught American Literature and creative writing at the Sukhumi Branch of Tbilisi State University and at the International Black Sea University. In 2005, persecuted by Georgian secret services for free-thinking, he asked for political asylum in Germany. In 2013, he was granted German citizenship. In 2015, he published his autobiographical novel--"The Asylum Seeker".

The protagonist of Sulkhan Zhordania's second novel--When We, The Dead, Awaken--buys the car of his life-long dream in Germany and drives it to Georgia across Europe and Turkey. Consistently enthralling, uncompromisingly straightforward, the novel depicts a generation of the post-Soviet people flooding the West where their dreams could easily be paid for in blood.

Drawing from personal experience, the emotion of the story is painfully accurate. An interplay of serious thought and dazzling wit, it is moving, funny, frightening--fiction at its best.
