This volume contains the May, 2016 version of US Army Training Circular - Rifle and Carbine. This is the latest version of the US Army training manual for the M16 rifle and M4 Carbine. This manual has been completely updated to reflect current battlefield realities and the almost dizzying array of attachments available to the current ground soldier designed to help them more effectively and lethally engage the enemy. It covers the basics of how to handle and shoot a rifle as well as the proper way to use optics and other aiming aids. The appendix on zeroing is especially well written. It also details all the different stages soldiers in basic training go through to achieve initial qualification. The point of the manual is not to enable someone to be Rambo but to take what is at best a complex subject and make it understandable for someone who has never held a weapon in their life. The goal is to make competent shooters out of inexperienced civilians and the Army rifle training program does that.
