Description

Approximately two-thirds of global primary energy is consumed in the cities. Beside the diverse technic for consumption reduction, some research and technologies have focused on increasing energy supply efficiency. CHP (combined heat and power) systems offer significant primary energy-efficiency gains and emissions reductions, but they can have high upfront investment costs and create nuisance pollution within the urban environment. In this thesis, after investigating cities and its required resources, technical SWOT of CHP has been studied. Integer linear modeling used for simulating urban energy supply system based on CHP technologies. Results show different scenarios could have a significant economic benefit. In this modeling life-cycle cost of plants has been analyzed and city has been assumed as a network of production and consumption cells. By employing CHP plants in the main scenario, 24% on energy costs and 20% on life-cycle costs could be saved. Based on the results, the annual produced heat in this plants are about 3.75 million MWh that could be sold to the consumers.
