Through some sort of poetic magic Carl Sennhenn manages to create works of great delicacy which at the same time have a quiet but definitive strength. They remind me of my grandmother's fine China with its simple pattern of tiny flowers. After each use (Sunday dinners and holiday gatherings), as she washed and put the China away, she would say "these beautiful pieces are over 50 years old, but they wear like iron."
That's how I would describe Carl's work. He speaks of all things familiar. Such as school boy reveries, frozen pipes and plumbers, remembering lost loves and mourning those who have passed on. Each one is a small powerful wisdom story infused with a quiet dignity and restrained beauty. Therein lies the strength that makes these poems wear like iron.
