Description

Decision regarding option to treat tooth mobility should be based on etiology & severity of tooth mobility detected. The most widely used method of mobility assessment is to tap the tooth between two extreme positions. The study was designed to evaluate the association of Periotest values with the amount of bone, clinical attachment loss & various clinical indices. The aim of the present study was to evaluate association between bone loss & Periotest values. Also we evaluated effects of attachment loss & tooth position on Periotest values. Patients were divided into two groups healthy & those suffering from periodontitis. With the help of Periotest, Florida probe & radiographs the assessment was carried out. The data was statistically analyzed using Student's unpaired t-test. The study showed that tooth mobility is dependent on bone support as well as clinical attachment level. It also indicated that anterior teeth showed higher Periotest values compared to posterior teeth & mandibular teeth showed higher Periotest values compared to maxillary teeth. There was no association between clinical indices & Periotest values
