Lands administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Forest Service, National Forest System (NFS) and U.S. Department of the Interior, Bureau of Land Management (BLM) make up about 48 percent of the timberland. Within the nonfederal timberland area, net volume of growing stock is estimated as 23.5 billion cubic feet. About 58 percent of the volume is administered by forest industry, 20 percent by other public owners, and 21 percent by other private owners. About 82 percent of the total growing stock volume is in coniferous species, with Douglas-fir accounting for 74 percent of the conifer volume. Estimated net annual growth of growing stock for nonfederal lands is 0.77 billion cubic feet, and average annual mortality for this timber is an estimated 0.1 billion cubic feet.
