He was a fellow of the Presidential Leadership Institute, Central State University, Wilberforce, Ohio (2011) and a fellow of the International School of Theory in the Humanities (1998). His other awards include the Charanjit Rangi Leadership Award for Faculty Professional Excellence from Central State University (2008) and the Resolution Recognition (No. 07-4-12-31) from the Greene County Board of Commissioners of Ohio (2007). Obiwu teaches English in the Department of Humanities, Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio.
