He moved to New Mexico in 1916 where he worked on his brother's ranch, later graduating from the University of California at Berkeley in 1925. Once a reporter for the San Francisco Bulletin, he married the artist/etcher Alice Geneva Glasier (Gene Kloss) and moved to Taos, New Mexico in 1927. He is also the author of North Star, Rainbow Obsidian, The Great Kiva, and The Stronghold, all from Sunstone Press.
