Bruce Carrolton is a Marshall for a consortium of wealthy families that engage in terra forming distant planets to meet the food consumption needs of Earth and all of it's mining planet operations. One of the terra forming groups sent to the southern pole to perform work to enrich the atmosphere has gone missing, along with the men sent to find out what has happened to them. Per policy he was required to come to this boring planet, on what he considers to be a complete waste of his time. Setting out for the southern pole, with the planet's magistrates daughter in tow, he runs in to more trouble than he had bargained for when it becomes clear that an ancient virus has been released from the frozen ice, with devastating cruelty to the people that become infected by it. The only question now is, can he save the terra formers and the search party, without loosing his life in the process.
