Description

In a cross-sectional study carried out for a period of 12 months in the various hospitals in Bangui (Friendship Hospital, Community Hospital, Pediatric Complex) inherent to blood transfusion, the aim of which was to evaluate the time between the prescription and the time of transfusion in each centre, we found that the etiologies of transfusion were much more medical, with only whole blood being used for transfusion. The safety of transfusion is clearly not assured and most often a blood bag is used regardless of the hemoglobin level. The blood group O/+ is the most commonly used. Blood is donated in the majority of cases by voluntary and unpaid donors. The transport of labile blood products is carried out by the parents of patients.
