Description

The Indian Diaspora today constitutes an important, and in some respects unique, force in world culture. Numerically they form third largest Diasporic community in the world, only next to Chinese and British. Over 24 million Indians have their presence in all corners of the world. It will not be an exaggeration to say that 'sun never sets in Indian Diaspora'. Though, they migrated in different capacities and in different busts and do not form a homogenous community. However, a sense of common belongingness always binds them with their motherland. In the era of globalization, a new relationship has emerged between the motherland and the overseas Indians. They have emerged as dynamic factors shaping the relations between the host and mother land. The present volume is an outcome of a seminar on "Indian Diaspora in the era of Globalization: Implications for India". Fourteen papers of the volume addresses variety of the aspects pertaining to Indian Diaspora under three broad categorizes- (1) Theoretical Perspectives, (2) Sub-national Identities and (3) Regional Dynamics. This book has tried to look into different dimension of" Indian Diaspora" for a general understanding of the people from all walks of life besides those who are in research and teaching in this area.
