The Messenger, a sensational transatlantic spy novel, was written after Robins' popular book "The Open Question", when Robins decidedly approach the public market. Contemporary review was unfavorable: the Daily Chronicle as 'Wasted Talent' and in Truth as 'a very dead horse indeed'.
