Professor William George Jordan (1864-1928) was an American editor and essayist, considered by some to be one of the greatest essayists of his time. He graduated from the City College of New York and began his literary career as editor of Book Chat in 1884. Later he became the editor of Current Literature, from which he retired to enter the lecture field. In 1897 he was managing editor of The Ladies Home Journal, after which he edited The Saturday Evening Post. Starting in 1899 he was the editor and vice-president of Continental Publishing Co. William wrote a number of religious and self help books in the early 1900's, the most famous being The Majesty of Calmness: Individual Problems and Possibilities (1900). Some of his other works include: The Kingship of Self-Control (1899), The Power of Truth (1902), The Crown of Individuality (1909), The Power of Purpose (1910) and The Power of Peace.
