Once daughter, Susan Wert Vogt, taught her mother, Miriam Taylor Wert, how to use the computer after Miriam's retirement in the mid-1980s, Susan challenged her mother, "Now write a book!" Her mother's first attempt was writing the first half of The Sheepskin in 1998 at age 73. In 2004 Susan had a vision about her mother's book. At age 79, Miriam accepted the challenge and wrote the dialogue in Part 2 to accompany the vision Susan had shared with her.

A former contributing editor at a newspaper, Susan realized that her mother Miriam had insights on growing older which she encouraged her mother to elaborate on in The Sheepskin as the shepherds aged.

From her mid-eighties to age 93 she became an email coach for the Billy Graham Evangelistic Assn. Her greatest joy was to be used by God to welcome souls into His kingdom . . . yes, even in her old age!
