He also portrays a shadowy cartel of leaders of several Middle-Eastern countries orchestrating the Candidate's success behind the scenes. The author describes a plausible scenario by embedding, then twisting facts of recent history. The reader will needs to constantly remind himself/herself that this is fiction.
