Describing paths of thought is very difficult. Where, at this place, are already many and steadfast lines laid down . . . nonetheless, . . . I do not believe that scientific progress is always best advanced by keeping an altogether open mind. Forgetting one's doubts is often necessary and to follow the consequences of one's assumptions wherever they may lead. The greater of things, is not to be free of theoretical prejudices, but to have the right theoretical prejudices.
