Description

King David is generally regarded as the greatest king of Israel. His rise to power came about only through a very long and challenging process and would have been impossible without the warriors that supported him. The Hebrew Bible makes reference to many of these individuals, and they are described as the mighty men of David with great exploits of their own. This fictional story is based on one such individual briefly mentioned in I Chronicles 11 (Divrei HaYamim Aleph). Israelite identity was still in development at the time when King Saul and King David reigned. Canaanites and Philistines and many other groups competed for influence, power, and domination and the Israelite tribes were caught in between. This story attempts to show what that interaction may have been like and that the struggles of one boy were, in all probability, the challenges faced by many. The story of Eliel tells the story an Israelite boy born to an Israelite father and a Canaanite mother.
