Description

The Atlantis Trail continues on from 'Atlantis: the Andes Solution' with the author's further four expeditions to the Altiplano, visiting four volcanoes with similar features to those described by Plato, the mysterious petrified city of Pumiri on the edge of the level plain near the lake and the village of the ancient Uru/Chipaya peoples in the middle of the great salt desert. The author finally visits the location Plato gave and finds a site next to the sea previously an island with circular zones of land and sea destroyed by earthquakes and floods exactly as Plato's described Atlantis. Furthermore this site is also home to the Aymara God of the Sea called "Tunupa" - the local equivalent of Poseidon who "broke the ground off all round about to make it impregnable to man" and a Bolivian legend called "The Legend of the Desaguadero" tells of a city punished by the gods and sunk into the sea - the origin of Plato's story of Atlantis.
