Dr. Hakeem Ibikunie Tijani is professor of history and the director of Baylor in Senegal and South Africa at Baylor University. He is the author of Britain, Leftist Nationalists and the Transfer of Power in Nigeria, 1945-1965 (Routledge, 2005). He was a UK Commonwealth Scholar (1994-1997), recipient of the Harry S. Truman Scholar Grant (1996), and the American Historical Association Bernadotte Schmidt Grant (2005). He recently co-edited Africa and the Wider World (Pearson, 2010) with Raphael C. Njoku and Tiffany F. Jones. His next book, Empire and Education: Labor Union Education in Nigeria Since 1945 will be published by Palgrave Macmillan in 2012.
