James Branch Cabell (1879-1958) was an American author of fantasy fiction and belles lettres. Cabell was well regarded by his contemporaries, including H. L. Mencken and Sinclair Lewis. Cabell is best known for Jurgen, A Comedy of Justice, which was the subject of a celebrated obscenity case shortly after publication, but the judge declared the book only "suggestive in a veiled and subtle way of immorality."
