Description

Composed in 1872 and first performed in Moscow at the Russian Musica Society on February 7, 1873, Tchaikovsky's second venture into the symphonic form was well-received, soon earning the nickname 'Little Russian' due to his quotation of the Ukranian folk-song "The Crane" in the final movement. Despite the public popularity, the composer was not satisfied and revised the work fairly extensively in late 1879 and early 1880 - the standard version now performed. This new study score is a digitally-enhanced reissue of one first issued by Brucknerverlag a few years after the second world war edited by Fritz Oeser, which itself is a re-engraving of the Soviet score from 1946. In contrast to so many of the on-demand scores now available, this one comes with all the pages and the images have been thoroughly checked to make sure it is actually readable. Matching large score and orchestra parts are also available from Serenissima Music (95725).
