Description
This is a memoir by a Russian who found himself as a keen observer before, during and after the 1917 October Revolution. Having been employed by the Russian authorities (and having worked for the British as well), he in the new Russia found himself in a situation where he had to choose and take sides. After the revolution he fought with the Whites (under Kolchak) in the Russian Civil War, was arrested in Siberia, then freed. For a while he did office work in Moscow, satisfied that he could help to get Russian transport out of chaos. However, feeling unsafe because of his past, he eventually, in 1921, fled to the West.
