In modern times, Sonora's surrounding natural wonders and proximity to Yosemite make it a favored destination for such outdoor activities as fishing, hiking, camping, skiing, boating, and even Western moviemaking. With many of its early buildings and stately homes still standing, Sonora has a welcoming historic downtown and residential district.
