Finally, it enriches the existing literature on the roles linguistics play in teaching and learning of the English Language especially in the ESL situations like Nigeria. This study concerns itself with the linguistic analysis of SMS text messages collected from forty students on the campus of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, Nigeria.
