Trot lives in southern California where she meets a little boy with an umbrella. Button Bright uses his family's magic umbrella to go on adventures. The children want to visit a near by island but end up literally in an island in the sky. The three travelers land on the blue side of Sky Island, which is a grim country ruled by a sadistic tyrant, the Boolooroo of the Blues. They escape through a fog and end up in the pink half of the island. The pink country is a much friendlier and more relaxed place than the blue side, with cheerfully chubby residents.
