Despite claiming to disdain the fair sex, in the course of a single year Skippy has chaste but hopeful relationships with a string of girlfriends, among them a social butterfly, a reformer, a flirt, and a deceitful "older woman" of 25.
As in all the Lawrenceville stories, school life has less to do with classwork than with practical jokes, sports, dances, and the consumption in quantity of pancakes, chocolate eclairs, and fruit-and-ice cream "jiggers."
