Description
Trapper/guide Silas Strong is a giant of a man and a solitary one, so unused to people that his speech comes in short bursts. He and his tight-lipped sister Sinth move between cabins on the edge of town and in the deep woods with the change of the seasons. It is the 1880s and the Adirondacks are still heavily forested. But greedy developers have arrived, determined to strip the land of every tree. This summer, Sinth's widowed brother-in-law arrives, asking to leave his young son and daughter behind while he looks for work. Also in residence: Masters, a young man puzzling out his place in the world. Silas sets out to make a good life for his household while the forest he loves is still standing.
