While working at the British Museum, Karl Marx discovered a mass of eighteenth century documents detailing the diplomatic history between Britain and Russia. This gave him the impetus for a book on the subject and from 1856 to 1857 Marx published a series of articles based on his discovery. These articles were never republished in Marx’s lifetime but was later edited and prepared for publication by his daughter, Eleanor Marx.

The Secret Diplomatic History of the Eighteenth Century provides an introduction to Marx’s interesting views on international politics in Europe during the eighteenth century. Especial focus is given to the diplomacy between Britain and Russia.
