Aerospace engineering is concerned with the development of aircraft and spacecraft, and has two main branches: Aeronautical engineering and Astronautical Engineering. Avionics engineering is similar, but is concerned with the electronics side of aerospace engineering. Aeronautical engineering was the original term, but as flight technology came to include craft operating in outer space (astronautics), the broader term "aerospace engineering" came into use. Aerospace engineering is often simply called "rocket science".
