Native New Yorker, HAMILTON WRIGHT MABIE (1845-1916), graduated from Williams College in 1867 and received a law degree from Columbia University in 1869. He served on the staff of the Christian Union, eventually becoming its associate editor. Considering his exceptional career as an essayist and critic, he also edited a number of anthologies for children. Other works include: Norse Stories Retold from the Eddas (1901), Legends Every Child Should Know (1906) and Heroes Every Child Should Know (1908).
