Description
Reveals how contemporary art contributes to the culture of remembrance. In 1991, the town of Pulheim initiated the Stommeln Synagogue art project, a permanent process of examining and reexamining this historically significant location, one of the few German synagogues to survive World War II. Since then the project has continued to contribute to a culture of remembrance. Far from the day-to-day business of culture, international artists have repeatedly taken up the challenge of developing works for the silent building in a remote setting and its remarkable history. Virtually all the works were specially designed for the location, both its architecture and context. This volume assembles a wide-ranging overview of remarkable works to mark the occasion of the thirtieth anniversary of the project.EXTRA 10 % discount with code: EXTRA
