About the Book
Lutheranism is a Protestant Church that identifies with the theology of German friar, reformer and theologian Martin Luther (1483–1546). Through his efforts to reform the theology and practices of the Catholic Church the Protestant Reformation was begun in the German-speaking territories of the Holy Roman Empire. Luther's Ninety-Five Theses, first published in 1517, were distributed throughout the world, spreading the Reformation beyond the Holy Roman Empire. Lutherans formally split from Catholics by the 1521 Edict of Worms. Lutheranism is now one of the largest Protestant denominations, with approximately 80 million adherents.
