In 'Okafor Meets his Match' Ngong believes that the pride of his people and nation is at stake and he must defend it. In "Zow and the Village Belle" the rituals and customs of inheritance and marriage are brought out in the tragedy of Anang, the heir apparent, who cannot marry his pearl. "The Brief Stop" brings to the fore the gruesome consequences of juvenile drug abuse and in "The Warder's Assignment" a printer accepts a job from a warder who had been assigned it by a prisoner on death row. Together the stories in this collection make for an enjoyable read that deftly captures the richness and complexity of human relationships in social life.
