Description

This reference book Notes on the Botany of the Bible is a facsimile printing of a treatise with the same title written in a hard cover exercise book by an unknown author in Sheffield in the North of England in the 1920s. It was discovered in a private library in France. It has been annotated and indexed by David Gordon Rose. The manuscript author's entries have been clarified, taking into account the latest research into the plants actually referred to in the Bible. Likely missing entries have been inserted, botanical nomenclature has been updated and the Bible references expanded. There is a new general subject index, indexes of common names of the plants and index of scientific names of the plants. This makes it much easier to cross-reference what can be a bewildering and often unsatisfactorily explained subject. The manuscript author's 35 botanical drawings have been supplemented with illustrations from J. H. Balfour's The Plants of the Bible of 1885.The manuscript Notes on the Botany of the Bible is a one-off work that makes this facsimile publication with updated material an unusual and attractive reference book for readers new to the subject. It should also be thoroughly enjoyable to those familiar with biblical botany and the associated planting of biblical gardens. The paperback is in mono with 93 black and white line drawings and a glossy color cover. All 72 pages of the original exercise book are reprinted at 100% original size. The updated notes are placed every four double pages to maintain the integrity of the original exercise book. A Kindle version of this book in "print replica" format will be available shortly.
