This new volume describes current research into the role of nitric oxide (NO) in the peripheral nervous system and other associated organs. Topics covered range from general considerations of nitrergic transmission, to elaboration of our understanding of the role of NO in transmission in individual peripheral organs, including its role as an alternate as well as a chief transmitter. The influence of NO on the more conventional modes of autonomic transmission are also considered. It also covers the emerging role of abnormal NO function in disease and, where appropriate, as potential avenues of therapy.
