It refers to some 6,500 persons--mostly Germans--who were naturalized in accordance with an act of 1740. The returns are from the colonies of South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, New York, and Pennsylvania, and from Jamaica in the West Indies, with those from Pennsylvania predominating. The entries generally include name, religion, town and county of residence, and date of naturalization.
