Description

It is the aftermath of a traumatic automobile accident. Philip and Elizabeth Boucher and their grown son Paul have plunged over a cliff into the ocean. Their bodies are never recovered. Ralph Shannon, an invalid and the family patriarch and Jenny, his twenty-two year old granddaughter remain inconsolable in their Carmel Highlands home on the California coast. Michael, Jenny and Paul s childhood friend, who is engaged to Jenny, is devastated to have her withdraw from him to cling to her grieving grandfather. She is guilt ridden for having been with Michael making love at the time of the accident. While agonizing over his daughter s portrait, Ralph decides to commission Gilbert Engress, a noted artist, to paint Jenny. What ensues is a passionate love affair. Michael s advances prove futile. While on the beach Jenny spots a fisherman identically dressed as her farther, fishing from his favorite site. Her hysterics causes him to disappear. Comforting her, Gilbert insists that it is a cruel coincidence. While his passions are waning, she is more enamored. Ralph, who feels disdain for his dead son-in-law, also sees the fisherman. Who is he? There is love, hate, pathos and a dramatic double twist ending. Although it is the late 90 s, there are glimpses of San Francisco in 1906, 1940 s and 1971.
