Gobariau introduced this character Lecoq, first time in his novel, 'L'Affaire Lerogue, published in 1866. In this novel Lecoq plays a minor role later it became a well-known name in detective novels. In 1869 the novel Monsieur Lecoq was published in two parts. It's a story related with investigation of three murders in a suspecting barroom in Paris. Police patrolling party, Patrolling officer Gevrol investigates it as a barroom squabble and prepares his report. But Lecoq a young police detective finds some clues that indicates it's not mere a barroom brawl but more than that. Later, Lecoq seeks permission to investigate the case. It's a tricky tale of three powerful families of France during Napoleon's downfall, showing us consequences of greed and revenge. To solve the mystery Lecoq seeks advice from old M. Tabaret.
