Among these are the festivals and fairs that make up the festive calendar of Yucatan. Thus, the patron saint festivals were consolidated as a bastion of popular religiosity. The cultural and religious experience of these festivities is a mixture of a series of sacred and ludic elements, in which in the same space and time, all the interested parties coexist and participate, without being differentiated by their social condition. In each of the towns a sacred image is venerated, known as the Patron Saint, to whom the people, together with the local church authorities, organize a festival in his honor as a symbol of respect and devotion, such as the feast of the Virgin of the Immaculate Conception of Izamal.
