Description

This research, inspired by a group of hardworking and dedicated Syrian refugees, aims to shed light on the many dynamics of social, cultural and economic inequalities many refugees in Germany are forced to face on a daily basis. With a focus on refugee integration barriers linked to non-profit organizations and education institutions and the culture and gender disparity within them, this study explores the evident gap of integration processes, particularly for female Syrian refugees. Analyzing the lives of 10 - five female and five male - Syrian refugees and their struggles of social integration, offers insights on how organizations are able to assist refugees in social integration processes as well as examine the need for more cultural sensitivity - particularly for female refugees - and the need to shift away from the one-size-fits-all institutional integration approach.
