Description
The breadth of knowledge that students are required to know for their course exams, Finals (and for the forthcoming UKMLA exit exam) is enormous. In order to assist with match that, many resources have been produced - however, when talking to students they commonly say they never quite hit the mark - either they go beyond the curriculum or into too much depth or they simply present information in a way that doesn't match their course approach or exam layout. This book aims to tackle all these issues - and it is tailored to match the core 'Presentations' in new UKMLA curriculum map, which means that students can be reassured that they have reviewed all the potential topics that could come up. By presenting the information as clinical cases, this book reflects current teaching/learning approaches, the case-based MCQ format in Finals and provides students with the information to not only succeed in their exams, but also to develop the problem-solving skills required as foundation/trainee doctors.
Finally, this book provides a neatly packaged summary of information; this will help to keep key facts at the forefront of the students' minds without overloading them. In the weeks leading up to finals, this book is exactly what is needed by time poor students to allay the anxieties around whether or not they have covered everything.
Focusing entirely on common clinical presentations (with key differentials and investigations at a glance), it is designed to be a companion volume to Medicine in Day: Revision Notes for Finals, UKMLA and Beyond 1e (pub. March 2022), which focusses on all the specific 'Conditions' (in the UKMLA map) and management strategies.
Summary: The rationale of the editorial team is to ensure all of UKMLA is fully covered exactly as presented in the syllabus across the 2 Medicine in a Day volumes: Volume 1 is a complete knowledge base, this volume 2 is an ideal way to consolidate that knowledge, in cases format. There will be cross-references between the volumes.
E-formats: this new volume will also provide key content in electronic formats, principally CKS - to ensure we have timely, comprehensive and appropriate level coverage for all the required UKMLA 'Presentations' - in Foundations, and potentially also to be re-purposed as interactive cases for Practice (PJB). TBC - discussions ongoing.
