1899. Charles Kingsley was an English clergyman and novelist. He was the founding member of the Christian Socialist movement and was known for his controversy with Cardinal Newman. He was a chaplain to Queen Victoria, a rector at Eversley, Hampshire and was sympathetic to the Chartists. This book contains Mr. Kingsley's Letters and Memories. This collection of memorabilia came in large part from known and unknown correspondents who treasured and lent their letters to be published for the first time, from publishers who allowed quotations from Mr. Kingsley's published works; but above all from friends who eloquently bore witness to Kingsley's character and genius.
