Description

An early morning mist drifts over the Point. It is a merging of the Back bay and the Front beach. It is a place of confluence of waters, people, and sentiments. It is strange how geography can structure a people and their attitudes toward their home. Point Cadet (pronounced caddy) is a prominence on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico. The people are primarily French (Cajun) ancestry and fishermen by trade. The Point is shrouded in mystery. It is a mystery of the people and not necessarily one of the place. Charley has noticed their tendency to speak of the Point in hushed tones, a deference to their perception of it as a special, almost sacred place. The Point itself speaks of nothing exceptional, and it is a wonder to Charley, why they reference it in the manner they do. They almost whisper as if it was sacrilege to speak of it in a loud voice, and Charley wondered why he was the only one that noticed this. The men from the Point did not appear to be affected, and they didn't notice this in the women either. It was something that troubled him, and he did not know why.
