In 1842 he moved to Sidney, Australia where he led three major expeditions. The volume describes the expedition, which covered over 3000 miles. In 1848 he set out from Condamine River on his third journey. He was last seen at McPherson's Station, Coogoon on the Darling Downs. There have been speculations about w hat had happened to Leichhardt ever since.
