She finds a baby grasshopper in a field near her home and proceeds to raise it herself. Being city children, insects were fascinating to them. The little girl also raised caterpillars and watched them develop through their various stages of growth; the best part being the emergence of the caterpillar from the chrysalis or the moth from the cocoon.
