Thirty-five-year-old James Kingman is in uncharted territory. His wife, Megan, and their daughter, Maddie, were killed by a drunk driver, and he is ill-equipped for the messy process of grieving. He finds additional and renewed purpose when he champions the cause of a local minority student brutally attacked by members of a local hate group. Colleagues urge James to proceed with caution in his crusade against a group known for violent tactics. James dismisses their concerns. Everything changes when an unforeseen romance with fellow attorney Julie Langdon adds renewed vulnerability to James's life. Abducted by the leader of the local supremacist group, Julie becomes a pawn intended to force James to back down from attempts to prosecute the group. Forced to make a decision to abandon a trusting and traumatized coed or risk losing Julie, he is determined to find another solution.
